According to record in ancient books ayurveda was in practice even
before 400 BC.By the 6 th century BC buddihst pilgrimage carried
the Ayurveda to china,Sri Lanka,Korea,Tibet and mangolia.Some scholars
from Persia,Afghanistan,Egypt and some other countries visitd india
to seek the knowledge of Ayurveda. The history of ayurveda is as
old as HIndus valley civilization dating back to 3000 BC.The cities
of Harappa and mohinjodaro are pointers to advanced sustem of hygiene
and health care.in between 1200 and 700 BC the four sacred vedas
were compiled.Refrence about diseases,herbs and herbal treatments
can be traced in Vedas especially Athrveda.Other treaties on Ayurveda
appeared in around the same time the famous of them are Charak Samhita
and Sushritaa Samhita which concentrate on Internal Medicine and
surgery respectively.
Ayurvedic
treatments were flourishing around 520 BC during the time of Buddha.A
famous Ayurvedic practitioner of this period was Nagarjuna.He was
famous for inventing various nem medicines for treatment of ailments.This
period is called golden period of Ayurveda.During the regime of
Chander Gupta Mauraya[375-414 AD] Ayurveda was part of mainstream
india mediccal techniques. Chakarpani Dutta was a vaidya of Bengal
who wrote books on Ayurveda such as Chakardutta and others.He was
rajvaidya of Graet King Laxman sen[1038-1088].
The
earlist scripts of Ayurveda was written on perishable meterial such
as bhojpattras and taalpattras.Later on scripts were written on
copper sheets and stones.Compilers and writers of Ayurvedic literature:Charak,Sushritta,Vaghbhatta,Bhavmishra,Shaligram
and some other writers have written about the quality,characterstics
and medicinal usage of herbs,minerals,metals, natural foods,fruits
and cooked food etc.Bhavmishra wrote Bhavparkash Nighantu giving
details about medicinal plants,their nature, effect and curative
properties. Ayurveda is not merely a healthcare system but it is
a form of life style adopted to maintain perfect balance.ayurveda
offers a unique blend of science and philosphy that balances the
physical,mental, emotional and spiritual component necessary for
holistic health.Ayurveda is wonderfull healing gift to human beings
by nature.Ayurveda is combination of natural herbs,plants and minerals
having supreme power to cure diseases.It is very effective in common
and complicated diseases.
Ayurveda
not merely treats symptoms but it cures from root cause and brings
back individuals into equilibrium.The basic principal of Ayurveda
is to prevent illness by maintaining balance in the body,mind and
counciousness through proper diet and lifestyle,as well as herbal
medicines.A patient being treated with Ayurveda is considered as
purusa,not merely a body.A purusa is a total combination of of mind,senses
and soul.The Ayurvedic Practitioner aims to achieve complete health
of patient not just to suppress troubling physical symptoms.The
approach is to diagnose the root cause and eliminate it.Ayurveda
therefore is not merely a healthcare system but a form of lifestyle
adopted to mauntain perfect balance within the human existance.
